Sunset

Stu stood on the beach as the sun slowly set over the ocean.
He wondered when his next adventure would begin.

Slug Puddles

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!
It's actually one of the grossest things you'll ever see...
This is what as slug looks like when it brushes it's teeth with salt and baking soda!

Slugs

You may not know it, but slugs are actually quite excitable.
Here is one that has just been confronted with common table salt.

Onions

Onions have layers... like Ogres have layers.
I figure the typical Ogre is simply afraid of rejection [not necessarily mean].
Therefore they try to avoid rejection by putting their ugliest foot forward, that is, by wearing protective layers designed to shield their true feelings.
It's either that or they really are mean.
:)

Grubs

People often forget that grubs are people too.
They've got feelings and hurts like the rest of us.
And...they especially like fishing!
:)

Little Birdie

This incredible creature flew over and perched for a few seconds just outside my window.
Luckily I had a pencil in my hand!!!

Mouse Testings

I've got a story brewing with a mouse in it and need to work on the 'character'.
I hope I don't bore you with mice sketches... but at least you get to see the process.
:)

Where's the weekend?

I've been working really late these past few days and this sketch looks a lot like I feel.

Temptation

The temptation for many is far too great and blocks all conscious thought of the imminent consequences.
I think this may apply to mice as well.
:)

Horsing Around

I've never been much for sketching horses.
They have a whole 'groupy' following... mostly girls.
But I just started doodling and before I knew it... there was a horses head.
Oh my Gawd... I'm getting in touch with my feminine side.
So here it is...

What do you see?

I drew this in 3 seconds during a conversation I had with my boss.
After sketching this sink... It seemed to be looking at me... like a face.

Fish Bones

I used to do a bunch of graphic work and used a logo with some fish bones.
I haven't a clue where that logo is today... it existed way back before my personal 'digital revolution'.
I was recently considering resurrecting the logo and possibly even the graphic work!
It may take me a while until I get it right!

Hermit Crabs

Have you ever wondered why hermit crabs are called that!?
Snails, turtles and armadillos all withdraw into their shells but don't get called a HERMIT!?

Birds in the Air

It is a gorgeous day outside.
A cool breeze is blowing.
Birds are twittering in the trees.
Somewhere a wildebeest is being eaten.
Spring must be right around the corner.

Time to regroup

With the completion of the first book in "The Great Lemming Adventures"... I sat and pondered some new sketch-type ideas.
Tons of stuff is flying around in my head... and there is no better time than the present to let it out.
Here is a wasp that buzzed by while I was shaking things about.

Headed for Home

Stu gathered up all the pieces he could find that had writing on them.
Lenny pondered the significance of the whole thing... and recovered his fishhook.
He gave it to Stu for a memento of the adventure.
They headed off in the direction of home, which was about a day's journey.

END OF BOOK

Just Noticed

Stu saw the hook laying among the pieces of hardened clay.
He wonered how it had fallen off and why he hadn't noticed it until now.
Hmmm.
It must have fallen off when he turned around in the mud shell.

Curious Discovery

Stu and Lenny came out from hiding after the owl was far over the nearby hill.
They investigated the 'wreckage' and found something quite interesting.
The pieces of mud had writing on them... but how?
How could there possibly be writing on the mud that dried right on his fur?

Bewildered Departure

The owl took a look around and decided to fly home... quite confused at this point.
This would be the last time he messed with Lemmings for a while.... best to stick to oysters.

Explosion

The casing hit the ground at terminal velocity.
The explosion startled animals as far as a mile away.
Pieces of the mud 'Lemming' scattered across the landscape...

Get a Grip

The mud was crumbly enough and the talons sharp enough to cause the owl to lose his grip.
The mud suit fell toward the ground just like a feather doesn't.

Wednesday, March 10, 2004

Mistaken Identity

The owl grasped the mud suit that Stu had worn, it's talons digging deep into the hardened mud.
Lenny nearly laughed out loud when he realized the owl thought he had a real lemming!

Take Cover

Stu and Lenny heard the sound of wings flapping and quickly took cover in a nearby bush!
It was the OWL!!!!
It had followed them into the woods!

Monday, March 08, 2004

Tight Fit

It was tougher than Stu had expected to extract his friend thru the open collar of the mud suit.
Lenny helped by inhaling a bit.

Sunday, March 07, 2004

Breath of Fresh Air

Lenny breathed a deep breath of cool clean air.
He had been distinctly aware of his bad breath and was determined to carry breath mints in the future.

Saturday, March 06, 2004

Crunch

The rock hit it's target with enough force to crack a Brazil nut.
Thank God Lenny wasn't from Brazil!
The shock wave riveted him and sent fractures throughout the entire mud suit.

Friday, March 05, 2004

Heave Ho!!!

Stu managed to lift the rock high over his head.
He stumbled a bit under the weight, but knew he only had once shot at this... the rock was too heavy to lift a second time!
Ready... Aim...

Nut Cracker

Stu realized he had to either get a bigger stick... or up the ante.
He spotted a fine group of stones and carefully chose just the right one for the job.
:)

Batter Up

Stu grabbed a stick to help Lenny out of the mud.
He tried and tried, but couldn't seem to even dent the earthen sarcophagus.

Tuesday, March 02, 2004

Lean on me

It didn't take long for Stu to find where Lenny's mud had baked solid.
He was conveniently propped on a tree.

Monday, March 01, 2004

Woof!

It took a while for Stu to get back to recognizable shape.
This always happens when you get extruded.
